Serene hill station in Kannur, ideal for trekking, offering panoramic views, monsoon charm, and Ezharakundu Waterfalls en route.
Cradled in the hills of Kannur is a destination ideal for adventure seekers, nature lovers and anyone who wishes to take a break from city life. An enchanting hill station located 1372m above sea level, Paithalmala is one of the highest peaks in Kannur district. Located 40kms from Thaliparambu and 65 kms from Kannur, this spectacular spot sits nestled in the Western Ghats on the Kerala Karnataka border near the Kodagu forests. At the crest, while on one side you can see the valleys of Coorg, on the other you can see the plains of Kannur and through the mists, you can even glimpse houses far away in the valley below, all the size of small matchboxes. Being a secluded spot it is ideal for those who seek to escape the chaos of mundane life and to immerse themselves in the ethereal beauty of Northern Kerala. The fact that it is a secluded area makes it a lot less prone to pollution and the other negative effects of civilisation as well thereby letting nature thrive and flourish. This heavenly hill station is surrounded by deep dense semi-evergreen shola forests. Home to rich flora and fauna, the area is home to over 100 varieties of butterflies and numerous rare trees and plants. At this mesmerisingly haunting cliff, in the midst of the jungles of Kodagu, also lies the ruins of the Palace of Vaithalkon King making it an all the more interesting place to visit.
